‘Trans:migration’ is a collaborative audio/visual installation inspired by the poetic writings and life of the Scottish-born naturalist and pioneer of wilderness preservation John Muir. In collaboration with documentary filmmaker Sana Bilgrami, and photographer Anne Binckebanck, Niroshini Thambar (musician and sound designer) used her personal experiences and worked with urban-based BME community groups to explore ideas of belonging and connection with nature in Scotland.
Trans:migration is a collage of photography, film, music, audio and creative writing generated by a series of encounters with landscapes along the John Muir Way in East Lothian.
Exhibited at the Mela Festival and Luminate Festival of Creative Ageing 2012. Commissioned by Edinburgh Mela.
